Next steps (procedure)
MakeHaven takes these accusations seriously.  We commit to acknowledging your report by the close of the next working day. Our next step is to create a written formal log of the complaint, and consider if there is a remedy. We may reach out to you for clarification on what happened while formulating this written log. Staff will have a discussion with you about what next steps you feel fit best. MakeHaven strives to protect the privacy and comfort of the accuser.  When receiving a complaint staff will determine, with your feedback considered, if the issues can potentially be resolved through facilitated mediation/discussion. Actions that require sanctions likely include informing the accused of the complaint and a sufficiently detailed description of the incident so they can exercise their right to an appeal. Solutions that involve issuing a written warning, or sanction with a description of the offending behavior to a harasser may inadvertently or by necessity include detail which reveal who made the complaint. MakeHaven staff will discuss what is to be shared and seek to understand and respect your concerns before issuing a warning or sanctions. If the activity is severe the staff may determine to immediately refer the issue, and all details to the board of directors or legal authorities.  We commit to making a decision and share written recommendations about your initial report within 10 business days. If investigation supports the accusation the Executive Director may determine to take intimidate actions such as: written warning, restriction of space use by the accused, removal from employment or volunteer position at MakeHaven, suspension or termination of accused's membership, a permanent ban from the space and/or report to the authorities. If either accused or accuser is dissatisfied with the determination of the Executive Director the decision may be appealed to the Board of Directors in writing to the chairperson. The Board of Directors will decide to either hold a special meeting regarding this matter, or will consider it at the next meeting in its cycle. Staff will respect the "Recommended Solution" and agreed solutions in subsequent conversations, but may refer complaints to the board of directors. The board is not required to act in accordance with the grievance or complainant's "Recommended Solution" part and may devise its own remediation, but will seek approval from the accuser unless legally obligated to act. All complaints are aggregated and reported to the board quarterly. We track whether you consider the complaint resolved, and your satisfaction in the resolution.

In the most severe cases MakeHaven's actions will be guided by the Crisis Response Plan:
