Making Makers - Bringing Makerspaces into Schools

This two day course is designed as an introduction to many of the tools and skills that can be taught and learned in a school Fab Lab or Makerspace. The items to be covered have been selected because they can most readily be implemented in a school environment, and typically do not overlap with a school's existing Career & Technical Education program.

Attendants will be given time to work with these devices themselves, and be able to take away samples and experiences.

The program will run both days from 8am - 4pm, with a break for lunch.

Instructor Bio:

Corey is a teacher, learner and maker. Presently, he is teaching Chemistry at Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT. Corey has over a decade of experience teaching science in high school classrooms. As an extension of this interest in science, he taught himself electronics, and then to program with Arduino. When the school where he taught installed a Fab Lab, Corey learned how to use the machines through experimentation. Then was in the second American Picademy in San Mateo, California. He was one of a tiny number of active teachers to ever attempt and graduate from Fab Academy, the intensive course from the Fab Foundation. He used these skills to push students to design their own musical instruments, circuit boards, furniture and much more in his Engineering courses, Science Olympiad and First Robotics club.

For online events. Please mute when entering so to avoid disrupting the presentation. Arrival more than 15 minutes late will result in not being able to participate. If you are new to online presentations join the presentation 5 minutes before start to ensure you are properly setup.

Youth Policy
Youth under the age of 18 are welcome as visitors in the space if they are under the direct supervision of an adult (parent or guardian), whether as guests of a member or attendees of an event. Youth cannot wander around the space unsupervised. Events that are specifically for attendees under 18 will be advertised as such. If you’re looking for an activity for your child we recommend The Eli Whitney Museum. From time to time MakeHaven staff may form partnerships with community organizations which conduct programming and take custodial responsibility for youth while in the space.
