Oxy Acetylene Welding Badge Checklist
- Oxy Acetylene Cutting, Welding, Brazing
- Video watched, quiz taken, any questions?
- Identify the gases, maximum acetylene pressure
- Identify flashback arrestors and check valves
- Ensure regulators off, turn on tanks (oxy 100%, fuel ½ turn), check hoses, bubble test if suspicious
- Either Braze, Weld with filler, or without filler 2 pieces of steel
- Appropriate safety gear donned
- Skin covered with non-synthetics
- Gloves (non-synthetic), wrists covered
- Mask (proper settings, 5 shade, delay), test by looking at lights
- Closed shoes
- Metal cleaned (Brush then Simple Green)
- Fume extractor set up and turned on
- Tip selected and attached appropriately (based on chart)
- Work clamped appropriately
- Lighting the torch
- Set regulators (based on chart)
- Acetylene lit with striker, increased to a feather, O2 added until neutral
- Torch wielded safely
- Practice welding/brazing
- Mindful of heat, torch direction
- Turn off torch (acetylene then O2)
- Cut a piece of steel
- What metal can oxy-acetylene cut (mild-low carbon steel)
- Work clamped
- Appropriate nozzle attached to cutting head
- O2 Pressure increased as per chart
- O2 valve at the base opened all the way, top closed
- Acetylene lit, roaring flame, O2 added until neutral
- Steel pre-heated
- Practice cutting
- Mindful of flame, table, splatter
- Acetylene off first, then O2
- Shut down
- Tanks off
- Hoses purged
- Regulators off
- Tips cleaned
- Area cleaned
- Hoses hung up
