Hack New Haven Public Transit Maps

Hello Folks,

I would like to propose an event to Hack CT Transit's mapping literature. The current brochures for route infprmation are complicated and signage at stops is not informative.

My proposal is to take a big step at resolving this in a 1 day event.

Here's my thoughts on how the event would work:

1) Teams form by home neighborhood

2) Teams get together on a Saturday am and attempt to take the bus downtown to MakeHaven

3) Teams design maps, route literature and other way finding mechanisms at makehaven

organize and inventory the space

We'll be organizing items and materials in the space roughly along the categories listed below. As we sort items, we'll be doing our best to establish ownership, tag it, and enter it into the website inventory system. Our end goal is to have an obvious and documented location for every item in the space, for every item in the space to be tagged, and for it to be tagged with owner and usage info.

MakeHaven Facade Facelift

We will need a party of folks to scrape, repair, and paint the front facade.  This project is very important as it's a condition to a possible donation/investment into the space by an outside party.  We need the membership to coalesce (word of the day :P ) in order to meet this goal fairly quickly.

self assembling, computationally evolving robots

The goal of this project is to create relatively simple units that can come together on their own and "evolve" there mechanisms for assembly and function.

I am aiming to get this project to a working initial prototype by june 27th according to the following schedule.

-Week 1(this week) assembly mechanism

                  - print several 3d models to identify a simple and reliable mechanism by which parts can find each other and come together using arranged mangetic force.

-Week 2 mechanical function, electronics

Let's Make a Wet Lab

I'm making this project as a place for people to add comments and suggestions regarding building in a lab space in the basement. The room in question is the old basement kitchen and the connected room with two sinks.

HERMS (Heat Exchange Recirculating Mash) Automated Brewing

Project Update - August 6, 2013 - Update 1: Filtering

One of the finished brews done prior to chlorine filter installation was ready to keg, but the off flavors were strong enough to discourage it.  The jury is still out as to the cause of the off flavors, but in an attempt to save the beer, and to play around, we acquired a 0.5-7 micron beer filter.

Infrastructure Improvements (Plumbing/Electrical/HVAC/etc)

First a note from our sponsor: If anyone knows a contractor of any sort who might be the type to work with us to keep costs down, please ask them if they'd be willing to come take a look at what we have to give us a quote.

Hi folks,

I'm putting this up as a placehold and rallying point for everyone involved in the infrastructure work at MakeHaven. As you may remember, we are currently focussed on improving the space in four key areas:

Trade Up to A Large Shop Tool

You may have heard the story about how a man bartered his way from a red paperclip to a house (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_red_paperclip). We are wondering if we can find our way from a compass to a ShopBot CNC. The trading has already started.

Trade #1

Starting with a donated compass

Workbenches for the basement

On Sunday, the 27th, @ 10am we will be constructing some benches for the donated tools we have accumulated as well as for work surfaces.  Tomorrow night (Tuesday) I will be measuring and plotting the basement space to try to come up with a reasonable layout.  Any input is welcome in this regard.

On Sunday we will start by picking up the materials at HD and will work until it ain't fun no more.

This will be a great opportunity for those members who would like to brush up on basic wood working skills to come down and learn while you help out.
