What to Expect

Expect a structured, instructor-led class with a safety review, demonstrations, and supervised hands-on practice. The instructor will walk through how the lathe works, the different types of turning chisels, and how to safely shape spinning wood. Participants will practice mounting material and operating the machine to complete the required steps for Wood Lathe badging during the session.

• Safe startup, operation, and shutdown of the wood lathe

• Proper mounting of wood stock between centers

• Techniques for using various woodturning chisels and gouges

• Understanding spindle speeds and tool rest adjustment

• Confidence using the wood lathe independently

Prerequisites/Safety Information:

• Participants must be active MakeHaven members.

• Participants must watch the applicable badging video(s) and pass the associated quiz before attending:

• Closed-toe shoes are required, and all safety protocols must be followed during the class.
