What's in the Jumpstart
3 months of membership
Round-the-clock access to 770 Chapel Street: the woodshop, metal shop, laser cutters, 3D printers, textiles, ceramics and electronics benches.
GEMS, a 10-week cohort
Two 2-hour sessions a week: one taught session and one guided shop session, with a coach and up to 9 other beginners.
Badges you keep
Graduate checked out on the laser cutter, planer, jointer, miter saw, band saw, router table, sewing machines, long-arm quilter, belt grinder and MIG welder.
Materials included
Everything for the program's projects is covered, so the first ten weeks have no extra costs.

Two ways to start
The Jumpstart: $325
3 months of membership plus GEMS. Best if you're new to shop tools and want a guided start.
Giving it? Tell us who it's for when you order, and print a fold-up card with their name on it straight from your receipt email. We won't contact the recipient before the date you give us. The recipient picks a GEMS cohort (cohorts start January 2027) and their 3 months begin with it.
Membership only: $62/month
Want to start right away, or learn at your own pace? Join and start using the space this week. Tool orientations, badges and discounted workshops are included, and you can cancel anytime.
Giving membership? Membership gift cards start at one month ($62).

Questions
Do I need any experience?
No. GEMS is built for people who have never used shop tools.
How much time does it take?
Plan on two 2-hour sessions a week for 10 weeks, plus whatever extra shop time you want. Your membership covers 24/7 access.
Does it expire?
No. Unused value is kept for future use, so the recipient can start with any upcoming cohort.
The person I'm buying for is already a member.
That works. The 3 months are applied as credit on their account, and they join a GEMS cohort like anyone else.
Can I get a refund?
Gift cards are non-refundable and can't be exchanged for cash. If the recipient doesn't use all of it, the remaining value can go toward MakeHaven membership, workshops, or other services.
Is there a lower-cost option?
Yes. The Jumpstart can be applied to sliding-scale membership plans, and GEMS has sliding-scale pricing too. Email info@makehaven.org and we'll work it out.
Is this a donation?
No. The Jumpstart is a purchase of goods and services, so it isn't tax-deductible. If you'd like to support MakeHaven, you can donate here.
Members must be over 18 and meet the expectations in the membership guide. MakeHaven reserves the right to refuse membership and issue a refund. The recipient signs up through the standard membership process and the membership credit is applied to their account. The Jumpstart is a purchase of goods and services, not a tax-deductible donation.
