Induction heating is a non-contact process which uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to produce heat in a workpiece. By placing a conductive material into a strong alternating magnetic field, electric current is made to flow in the material, thereby causing Joule heating. In magnetic materials, further heat is generated below the Curie point due to hysteresis losses.

Using the induction forge, basic hammer techniques, and hand tools, students will cut, twist, taper, bend and smash steel into either a wizard wand or a BBQ fork of their own design.

During this session participants will learn hands-on how to tuft their own simple design. Each participant will be assigned the use of tufting gun and frame, all materials will be provided to create a rug approximately 20" x24". Over the two sessions participants will create a carpet of their own design which they can take home.

Handplanes are the answer to most questions about working wood by hand, but they can be a bit mysterious starting out.
