MakeHaven Privacy Policy

MakeHaven Privacy Policy

Adopted by the Executive Director, October 29, 2026. Last updated: October 29, 2026.

MakeHaven keeps information about the people who use our space so we can run memberships, classes and the shop. This page explains what we keep, how we use it, and your choices.

What we collect: Anyone who visits, takes a class or comes to an event gives us a name and contact details, plus payment records if they pay. Members also give us an emergency contact and photo ID. For youth programs, a parent or guardian gives us their child's information. We don't knowingly collect information online from children under 13. We keep records of how people use MakeHaven, such as door entries, class sign-ups and messages you send us. If you donate, we keep your gift history and may use public information to plan our fundraising. Demographic questions are optional, and you can skip them. The space has security cameras. We may use camera footage and data, including the camera system's built-in tools, for safety, security and running the space. Members must keep their contact and emergency information current. Our website uses cookies and Google Analytics to see how pages are used, and our emails track opens and clicks.

How we use it: To run your membership, let you into the building and onto equipment, keep everyone safe, stay in touch, and improve our programs. Demographic answers help us understand who we serve. Reports we publish use totals, never individual records.

Who helps us: We use outside services for payments, email, door access, our website and AI tools. Card numbers stay with our payment processors; MakeHaven doesn't store them. We don't sell or rent your information, including donor information, and we share it otherwise only when the law requires it or you agree.

What others can see: Other members can see your member profile. Things you choose to share, such as Shop Our Makers listings and project pages, may be public. MakeHaven is a shared space, a bit like a public one, so expect to be seen and photographed here. Our membership agreement includes a photo release, and photos taken at MakeHaven may appear in our posts and materials. You can always ask us not to use photos of you.

AI: Staff use AI tools in their work, and sometimes that means an AI service sees member records. When you ask our website or Slack assistant a question, what you type goes to an AI service. When we can, we choose services that don't train on our data. People, not AI, make decisions about membership, access and discipline. You can turn off the website assistants in your account settings.

Your choices: You can see and update your information and preferences at any time on your My Membership page. Current members must keep their required information on file and agree to our terms of service. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time, and you can ask us for a copy of your information. We keep membership records over time as a history of our community. Former members can ask us to remove their personal information, including their photo ID. We keep records we are required to keep, such as payments.

Security: Staff, contractors and volunteers may see your information when they do MakeHaven's work, including analysis, and they must agree to protect it. No online service is completely secure, but we take care and reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes: We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version.
