Complete these items to earn the badge.
  • MIG
  • Video watched, quiz taken, any questions?
  • Identify:
  • The controls on the welder
  • The gas and wire being used (CO2/Argon mix, steel wire)
  • What materials can be welded (steel)
  • Do coatings need to be ground off? (Yes, >2” from all welds)
  • Demonstrate proper setup of filler wire, conductors, take apart nozzle
  • Weld 2 pieces of square steel in a tee
  • Appropriate safety gear donned
  • Skin covered with non-synthetics
  • Gloves (non-synthetic), wrists covered
  • Mask (10-13 shade, delay), test by looking at ceiling lights
  • Cap for head
  • Closed shoes
  • Metal cleaned (brush then Simple Green)
  • Fume extractor set up and turned on
  • Turn on gas, set proper flow rate (25cfh)
  • Appropriately clamp work
  • Attach work clamp
  • Trim wire tip (as needed to remove balled tip)
  • Experiment with volts/speeds/travel speed
  • Once calibrated, show a good weld around joint
  • Shut down
  • Wire trimmed & Nozzle cleaned
  • Gas and Fan off
  • Lines coiled
  • Area cleaned
