Caning is a method of weaving chair seats and other furniture either while building new chairs or in the process of cane chair repair.
Join the instructors from East Street Arts and learn how to weave a junior footstool (12" x 9" x 8" high) using fiber splint (paper) in a herringbone pattern. Once you learn how to do paper, you can use other materials like shaker tape and splint for more variation.
Attendees will cane their own outdoor/garden bench and be sent home with polyurethane to apply a finish to the weave to protect the material.
No experience necessary, all materials (including stool frame) are included.
