Woodworking Joinery Series: Mortise & Tenon

What to Expect

This is a hands on, shop based workshop focused on precise layout and clean cutting techniques. You will interact directly with hand tools and shop machinery as you practice clearing out a mortise and cutting matching tenon shoulders. We will spend time testing tolerances, making fine adjustments for a snug friction fit, and going over proper glue up steps. By the end of class, you will have a finished test joint to take home for future reference.

• Joint Layout and Marking: Using marking gauges, squares, and knives to establish precise cut lines on timber.
• Mortise Execution: Learning methods for clearing material efficiently.
• Tenon Cutting and Fitting: Form square tenon shoulders that fit your mortise dimensions.

Prerequisites and Safety Information

There are no prerequisites for participating, so all skill levels are welcome. Please wear closed toe shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid loose clothing or hanging jewelry while working in the shop.

All materials are provided. Feel free to bring a pencil and notebook if you want to write down specific measurements or setup steps.
