Intellectual Property & Incorporation for Emerging Entrepreneurs and Inventors

New entrepreneurs are often in need of a overview of the basics, including how to incorporate and understanding patents and copyright. In this session, MakeHaven Startup Coach Bruce and Executive Director JR will cover these topics, share insights, and answer questions.

Bruce draws on 23 years of running a small business through growth from a solo proprietorship, an LLC and a partnership. He is a trained SCORE coach. He has worked with lending institution has insights into you need to put together as a small business to have a successful interaction and avoid pain when working with bank. He is also a maker and known for active participation in a program that 3d prints prosthetics for children missing limbs.

J.R. is a cofounder and executive director of MakeHaven, a nonprofit makerspace and FabLab in New Haven, Connecticut.  J.R. has a history of nonprofit leadership at United Way, in New Haven he currently serves on the board of the Eli Whitney Museum and Elm City Innovation Collaborative. He has been involved in local environmental initiatives and is an advocate for urban river restoration and access. He has earned a master's degree in Public Affairs from the School and Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University with a focus on nonprofit management.
