Led by Akeera, this workshop celebrates the long and powerful legacy of Black and POC makers, builders, and craftspeople. You’ll move through each stage of the process to create a beautiful, functional 10”x12” cutting board to take home.

By the end of class, each participant will have completed one or two foundation paper–pieced blocks and gained confidence with the basic steps of this technique.

During the program, participants will go through tool introductions, both as a group and independently with guidance. These digital badges serve as a record of the participant's progress in completing the required safety orientations for different tools. The goal of the program is to earn 12+ badges with at least two in each of the focus areas (wood, metal, textiles, digital), and complete a project in each section that can be presented in a show-and-tell session during graduation.
