Build & Badge: Shapeoko CNC
Curious about CNC milling? This hands-on session will get you safely up and running on the Shapeoko Pro, MakeHaven’s desktop CNC router. You’ll learn how to operate the machine, complete a small test cut, and earn your Shapeoko Mill badge, unlocking access for independent use.
This badge is also a required step toward using the Tormach CNC mill—so if you’re looking to move into advanced metal milling, this is one of the steps along that path.
What to Expect:
We’ll walk through safe machine setup, basic design in Carbide Create, and how to run a job from beginning to end. This is a badge-focused checkout session, designed to make sure you can use the Shapeoko safely and independently.
Want to take your CNC skills further? We also offer a bi-monthly VCarve class that dives deeper into design and toolpath creation for more complex projects.
Skills You’ll Acquire:
Safe operation of the Shapeoko CNC router
Securing materials and setting zero positions
Creating simple designs and toolpaths in Carbide Create
Executing a basic milling job
Understanding next steps for more advanced design work
What’s Provided
Shapeoko CNC machine access
Computers with Carbide Create installed
Materials for a small milling project
Safety gear and instructor support
