Workaday Hack - DIY Phone Cradle

Submitted by Robert Narracci on

If you're working at home (I feel lucky to be doing so...some people aren't lucky enough to be working at home or to be working at all) this 30-60-90 degree cradle can make it easier to manage a phone next to a laptop during video conferencing. The double notch allows portrait or landscape orientation and it should be sized to hold your wetsuited phone snug. Flip it over if you'd like a more dramatic view of your nostrils. Made with 5/4 pine but anything thick enough to not tip over will do fine.

On the subject of tipping over...

A later edit for more stability.

The one here is pretty messed up. Here's a link to a new one:

A 10 minute cloth mask (9"x6" starting size)

This is a fast, simple sewn facemask that includes a nose piece. It is designed for use with the 9" x 6" mask kits, but you can also cut material to 9"x6". This pattern also works at 9.5"x7" for a larger mask.  I was able to create a mask in about 10 minutes, and that's with some 7th grade home-ec training and a badging on a sewing machine at MakeHaven. This is written by a novice sewist for novices. You can do this!

Covid-19 DIY Projects Round Table Update

-

Online

An event happening exclusivly via Zoom, Google Meet or similar online video communication system. A link will typically be shared via email once a person has registered or will be posted to the event page.

The MakeHaven community has been active in finding DIY solutions to the Covid-19 crisis.

This session will review the needs and the progress and status of each of the projects. Updates will be presented by team leads and there will be a brief opportunity for questions related to each project.

Solution/ Project Leads will present in less than 5 minutes:

  • Brief recap, what is being done and why.
  • Progress since last week
  • Remaining needs (materials, knowledge, labor)

Questions will be at end of presentations.

As the Gerber CNC has been in development for over a year and projects larger than the Shapeoko can handle are inaccessible to members at the moment. A handheld CNC would allow a stop-gap to allow the working of much larger projects than can be contained within a table.

Moreover, as it is portable... it could conceivably be used offsite for outreach events and other engagements (provided that event sites have the proper power requirements).

$2499.00

From Slack:
16” plus the infeed/outfeed length is a game changer; being able to joint wide components post glue-up is amazing

The fundraiser is live! MakeHaven will be matching, so we just need to reach $1000.
