The Coronavirus is projected to overwhelm the capabilities of most hospital systems during the growth and peak of cases requiring mechanical ventilators. Most ventilators are in short supply and it maybe impossible in many countries to get more. As care is rationed many people are projected to die if not given ventilation at an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

MakerspaceCT in Hartford is hosting a hackathon event at the end of March, and MakeHaven is hoping to send a team of members to compete as a group representing our community. The target of this hackathon is an IoT project focused on "smart cities". For those of you who may not know, IoT refers to the "Internet of Things" which is a fancy buzzword to represent any device that connects to the internet. For people unfamiliar with a "hackathon", it is an event where teams get together over the course of a weekend to rapidly prototype an idea and present it.

Microbit is a microcontroller computer perfect for learning. The device can be programmed to sense data from the environment, control motors, and much more. The system allows programing through a graphical system of connecting blocks. it is easy to learn, even with no previous programing experience.
Class is open to adults, youth can participate if joined by their parent.
