Soldering 101: Make an LED Bike Spoke Light

Friday, January 20, 2023 - 6:30pm to 9:00pm

Learn the basics of soldering by building a color changing light for your bike spoke. Participants will be given a circuit board and walked through the process of soldering through-hole (bigger and easy to solder) components to that board.

During the activity we will discuss each component and their role in making the device function.

Each participant will leave with one finished bike light board. The bike light color can be customized by configuring switches on the board or using a tilt switch to make the color dependent on the device orientation.

The instructor will also describe the process used to design the board and direct students to resources where they can learn about designing their own projects.

No experience necessary, this is an ideal starting workshop for someone newly interested in electronics and soldering.
