Ticketed Workshop

Instructor: Akeera Peterkin

In this hands-on Woodshop 101 workshop, participants will learn how to safely and confidently use core woodshop machines. This class focuses on understanding essential stationary tools—including the table saw, miter saw, and drill press—rather than completing a finished project. It’s an ideal first step for anyone curious about woodworking or looking to build comfort and confidence in a shared shop environment.

What to Expect

Expect a guided, instructor-led session with live demonstrations and supervised hands-on practice. The instructor will walk through how each machine works, what it’s best used for, and how to operate it safely. Participants will observe proper setup and adjustments, ask questions, and try each tool under supervision. The pace is beginner-friendly and designed to reduce intimidation around large shop equipment.

Skills You’ll Acquire

• Understanding the basic functions of the table saw, miter saw, and drill press

• Safe startup, operation, and shutdown procedures

• Making basic cuts and drilled holes accurately

• Recognizing common shop safety risks and how to avoid them

• Increased confidence navigating a woodshop environment

What’s Provided

• All tools and materials needed for demonstrations and practice

• Safety equipment including eye and hearing protection

• Instruction and supervision from an experienced woodshop instructor
